The BYBA (Burrillville Youth Basketball Association) is a volunteer, non-profit organization serving Burrillville children ages 5 through 17. We are dedicated to providing a safe environment in which Burrillville youth can learn and enjoy the game of basketball. We encourage and emphasize good sportsmanship, individual skill development, and the importance of teamwork.
The BYBA offers a recreation program and travel team program.
Recreation
Divisions:
Biddies - coed ages 5-7
Youth - coed ages 8-9
Junior Boys– boys 10-12
Senior Boys– boys 13-17
Senior Girls– girls 10-17
*depending on the number of signups, divisions may be adjusted
Season: Our recreational and travel team programs typically run from early November until the second week of March. Evaluations are held mid October in order to form balanced teams. Each team will have a scheduled weekly practice followed by a game at the end of the week. Games are played on Saturdays between 8 AM and 4 PM in the high school gymnasiums, with game times varying by age division.
Practices: The times, frequency and locations of the practices are determined at the start of the season and assigned to a coach in the respective division. Please note that children will be assigned to their coaches and practice times, and this is not selected by the parents.
Uniforms: Each player in the league receives a uniform t-shirt, which is not to be altered in any way. Players should wear non-marring shoes, and and no watches, jewelry, or hair pins are allowed.
Gyms: All games will be played at Burrillville High School in either the dome or utility gyms, depending upon age. Practices may be held in any of the school gyms from Monday to Thursday night, with the time and location depending upon the age division.
Travel Program
The travel program provides an opportunity for players to play teams from around New England in a competitive format. These teams are generally made up of the higher skilled players per age grade level. Tryouts are mandatory!!!
Teams: Teams are setup per grade (depending on interest).
Tryouts: Tryouts are mandatory and will be announced after recreation evaluations.
Season: For 2021/2022, we will be playing in 8 league games around RI with opportunities of additional games if the team makes the playoffs. In addition, each team will play 2-3 additional tournaments.
Practices: Teams can expect 1-2 mandatory practices per week.
Uniforms: Uniforms consist of a jersey and shorts that must be purchased separately after teams are formed.
Costs: This program requires an additional cost that is currently being finalized.
